Understanding a child’s normative development
To be able to effectively work with children who have experienced trauma in their early lives, it is important to understanding the normative brain development so as to be able to recognise and distinguish what happens when they are impacted by trauma during their development. Making this distinction helps us find targeted strategies and interventions to help repair the impact they have suffered.
The disintegrative impact of trauma
Trauma has a disintegrative impact on the brains functioning and development. It reduces the brain’s capacity to achieve complex adaptive self-regulatory states, it changes the architecture of the brain and changes the connectivity between brain structures.
